Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School, in 1992 began studying marine biology. Bossard began her career as a commercial seafood expert at the age of 1999, after she began working aboard the F/V Sunset, a 65' halibut schooner turned to salmon tender with Murat Aritan. He has been who has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and have joined forces to stake their claim to their respective industries. Both of them are proponents of conserving as well as profiting from sustainable resources within the industry of seafood. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood retailer, was founded on the 7th of July 2007 Bella Bossard (age 3), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after the birth of her two children. Her husband has a long experience in the industry of fish and often they are separated from each other for five months or longer. It is during this time that they are focusing on their financial and environment targets. Bossard, their son Andre and Isabella, her daughter Isabella will return home to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands for the harvest of wild salmon. A small 42-salmon trolling vessel using hooks and lines to catch their targeted salmon, they join Aritan during two consecutive months selling to local processors and continuing to expand their direct-market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way of purchasing the custom processing and packaging services provided by small processors to create unique wild seafood products that show their passion for quality as well as the environment.
